Recently Sr Myree Harris visited Janet, a former Gethsemane resident, who lived within the community for eight years. After suffering from a cerebral haemorrhage, she needed to relocate into residential care, but that doesn’t mean she was forgotten.
Once someone joins the Gethsemane Community, they are members for life – should they wish to remain in contact with us. Regardless of whether they move into independent living arrangements or assisted care, Gethsemane will always be there to offer support in any way possible.
Janet is often visited by Sr Myree, other Gethsemane workers and volunteers as well as current community residents. These visits are so important to Janet as the only family contact she gets comes from her brother, Peter, who visits with staff from his group home.
The people that Gethsemane Community Inc help usually have no one and no where else to turn to. We are the family when their biological family has forgotten them. If you’d like to assist us in continuing with our work, you can donate to Gethsemane Community Inc via PayPal, volunteer to help with the running of the community or pitch in to help with the Christmas Project.
