Things are ramping up over here at Gethsemane! Lots of grocery shopping followed by packing of the Christmas Project gift hampers by our dedicated volunteers Michael, Maddie, Dee, Shane and Tricia.
These personalised hampers are prepped by our amazing volunteers and will be gifted to over 900 people living in group homes, boarding houses and aged care facilities across NSW.
The recipients of our gift hampers are often forgotten about during Christmas, they either have no family or friends, or their families are no longer in contact with them. Often they feel completely isolated during the festive season with no sense of belonging to the community, especially when they see how other people are enjoying and celebrating it. This is why the Christmas Project exists.
There’s a peak in suicide rates around this time when it comes to the poor, they often have very little, have no contact with the outside world and often go hungry. Gethsemane Community drives this community outreach program to ensure that these people know they matter, that they belong and they deserve to have a happy Christmas.
