There are 875 people living in Boarding houses and other institutions that were the focus of the second major task organised through Gethsemane and its network of volunteers.
These people have very few friends or relatives and therefore do not receive any cards at Christmas time. The names of these people are provided to a number of people responding to the call to provide a personal message on a Christmas card to them.
As a result, each of these often forgotten about members of society receive up to 10 Christmas cards, which many of them love to arrange on the wall near their bed in the only space they can call their own. To respect the privacy of the individual, and in keeping with the Law, Gethsemane does not provide their addresses to the people willing to send the cards, so the address given is the Gethsemane PO Box. Once we receive the cards we then have volunteers help readdress the cards.
This is another challenge of the charity and it carries over post Christmas, as not all cards in time. However the joy the cards give makes the all the effort more than worthwhile.
